Spiky Petulance

I feel like I look like a surly awkward petulant teen in these pics. Maybe it all lies in the power of dem spikes there. Mmmmm, spikes....Apologies for the image quality, click on them for bigger res :)

Blue Chambray

Writing this makes me feel giddy but I refuse to talk all over this post. Instead I give you a couple of images from the Saturday that was. We stopped by the Barbican to see Peter Brook's 'A Magic Flute', an endearing opera that was efficient in its delivery. I liked hubby's images of my outfit so much I suggested we turn them into My Capacious Bottega's very first style book. Yes, sit back and enjoy my first style book. Click here  or the magazine front-page below.

I love reading your comments so do continue letting me know what you think. And yes, per your requests, I am working on a style remix of 3 very different but equally exquisite looks based around the Raphael Young that landed last week which I think you will all adore!

Love Jones

I present to you my newest love BIBA-108B. If you still have yet to check out the SS11 offering from the mad talent that is Raphael Young, I suggest you make a detour immediately. He has also been given the Net-A-Porter nod; he is one of the new names they are carrying this season.

I think hubby captured the Nappa Iron Blue beautifully do you not think. Can I say merci beaucoup to the darling Melody from Raphael Young for the complimentary leather purse which I truly adore and the beautiful bunch of yellow roses which were a perfect surprise. As of now I am a devoted Raphael Young brand ambassador.

Point + Shoot

Supre Maxi Skirt / Uniqlo Heatech Top / Jeffrey Campbell Lita / Vintage Jewellery / Audrey Cantwell Turban

I get lots of comments regarding my pictures so I thought I would use this post to speak a bit about what we use to bring about the images you see. The concept, styling and make-up is undertaken by myself but there would be no lovely pictures to bring the vision to life if it was not for an amazing photographer, who I am also lucky enough to call husband. He is a tad anti-social as opposed to shy where social media is concerned but more of his work can be found on Flickr.

Hubby's home studio kit currently consists of -:
  • Canon 5D
  • 50mm EF 1.2L
  • 2 x Interfit 200s through white umbrella, camera left and right. 1 interfit 200 top left on the backdrop
  • Photoshop

However, I am undecided over a camera for my own every-day use. I currently use my trusty Canon Ixus 870 point and shoot for daily use but want to share more great pics with my blog friends without having to rely on the old man / photographer. We use Hubby's Canon 5D for shooting style content for the blog. He reminds me often that 'his' camera is indeed 'ours' but I would not feel comfortable handling it for my own pedestrian use (I am a walking accident most of the time) and as such I am considering either a Canon 500D or 550D to replace my point & shoot.

If there is anything else you would like to know about the visual side of things on the blog I am sure I can convince my hubby to do a guest post! In the meantime, I am pretty sure I am going for the 550D but have you got a preference? What do you currently use and are you also considering changing to DSLR?

p.s I asked for advice and the valued ones spoke! Thank you for helping me make up my mind and expect to see the new  acquisition during the week.

You make me like Charity

Clowning scares me. Not in the 'mummy, don't let him near me' kind of way but more in the 'please, don't make me get up and be a clown' way. I realise that without the full Fame School back-story this opening sentence makes no sense so click HERE to get up to speed.

See, my problem is that I have an aversion to looking stupid. I swear it aggravates my psoriasis. And without looking stupid, we have no clown.

We have all had moments where we looked stupid unintentionally, right? Some of us have been unlucky in that these moments were captured, by someone that cared in their own special way, for posterity, and are sources of amusement for potential life-partners during visits to your folks (everyone should experience the photo-album ritual/humiliation) or for frenemies that lurk on your Facebook page, killing time by going through your tagged photos.

Three weeks into Clowning and I am at a total loss. I raided my wardrobe for an attire fitting of a clown but nothing I own (Sic!) seems to cut the mustard. In despair, I must venture to my local charity shop. My mission: to find an outfit for the clown within. If I must look stupidly ridiculous I might as well do it for a good cause, such as the Red Cross. See, I am no longer thinking of Clowning as me looking stupid but rather me giving back. Yes, I have, as of now, elevated my clowning endeavour to charitable status because I know me looking stupid will make many a people happy.

You can of course help by suggesting what the clown in me should wear!

BIBA-108

The weekend was spent holed up with my hubby and daughter. I ate way too many cream cheese & strawberry jam filled bagels and tried, in vain, to stay away from the Raphael Young e-store all because I cannot make a decision between BLUE or BLACK...Which would you choose?

I did as much homework for school as my attention span could endure (give the girl a cookie) and spent an age collating the entries so far for the Give-Away. Needless to say, spreadsheet is now my new best friend. Your name is down, right?!

I posted phone images of this outfit on Twitter a couple of weeks ago and had a couple of requests for 'proper' pics which I finally saw to. Here I am wearing Zara Pants / Zara blazer / Appeali top / Storets shoes.

I will finish by saying that my heart goes out to all in Japan and I hope the country begins to find its feet soon after such a horrific disaster. To my readers that reside or have family and friends out there, my thought and prayers to you Xx

Androgynous Rex

A huge hello to all my new followers. I am clicking through every single one of your blogs to say a personal 'allo so bear with me if I haven't popped round yet :)

Fun title, no?

I was featured on the brilliant urban magazine that is Fashion Bomb Daily this week. Whilst it was nice to know that my style is not a 'Hot Mess' it did make me think of that question of personal style and how we come to define ourselves in our style box of choice. Since I started blogging I get asked to define my 'style' quite often and I have by now composed a short sound-bite that I can reel off at the drop of a hat. However, one of the comment on the feature made me realise that I omit a description that underscores practically every outfit I choose to wear and my over-arching personal style: my love of androgynous fashion (not to be confused with masculine). I have always had that androgyny 'vibe' about me. It is in the way I look, the way I carry myself, the societal roles I choose to play and of course the clothes and accessories I wear.

I dreamt, as a teen, of a wardrobe filled to the brim with Commes De Garcon, Junya Watanabe and Vivienne Westwood; Clothes that look structurally hard to wear but on the female body, married with the right attitude, ooze as much sex appeal as a tight fitting bandage dress. And it pleases me to know that I have managed to retain this 'vibe'. So yeah, this post is a reminder to myself, should I be asked, that I like to look 'well 'ard'!

What would you say inspires your style and what style box do you choose to identify with?

Tender Plants

Life threw me off kilter for a couple of days but I took it on the chin and made lemonade out of lemons. For a total control freak, such as myself, it is a daily learning curve to just accept what comes my way without the raging desire to tame it, mould it and direct it all in the same breath. But enough of that, it is Friday! The gate-way to rest & recuperation so to aid your relaxation further I give you lightness in the form of these images courtesy of the only photographer that manages to consistently stretch me to Himalayan heights. I swear I am only 5' 7"...
