Androgynous Rex

A huge hello to all my new followers. I am clicking through every single one of your blogs to say a personal 'allo so bear with me if I haven't popped round yet :)

Fun title, no?

I was featured on the brilliant urban magazine that is Fashion Bomb Daily this week. Whilst it was nice to know that my style is not a 'Hot Mess' it did make me think of that question of personal style and how we come to define ourselves in our style box of choice. Since I started blogging I get asked to define my 'style' quite often and I have by now composed a short sound-bite that I can reel off at the drop of a hat. However, one of the comment on the feature made me realise that I omit a description that underscores practically every outfit I choose to wear and my over-arching personal style: my love of androgynous fashion (not to be confused with masculine). I have always had that androgyny 'vibe' about me. It is in the way I look, the way I carry myself, the societal roles I choose to play and of course the clothes and accessories I wear.

I dreamt, as a teen, of a wardrobe filled to the brim with Commes De Garcon, Junya Watanabe and Vivienne Westwood; Clothes that look structurally hard to wear but on the female body, married with the right attitude, ooze as much sex appeal as a tight fitting bandage dress. And it pleases me to know that I have managed to retain this 'vibe'. So yeah, this post is a reminder to myself, should I be asked, that I like to look 'well 'ard'!

What would you say inspires your style and what style box do you choose to identify with?

The Return of the Caped Crusader

Wow, what is this you wonder!? Surely, it cannot be a blog update! Forgive me. Truly. A whole week has gone by and my stressed brain has surely shrunk in size during that period. We now have internet access which makes all things better and I can get back to lavishing love and attention on the blog. And of course catching up with all YOUR outpourings that I have missed during the past week.

Hubby called me Little Black Riding Hood in this get-up! I am wearing a Mina dress paired with a vintage coat I 'taxed' off my darling mother, Firetrap booties and Schwing Schwing corset belt. In my mind the dress was to be paired with a lace slip underneath (as shown below) but it did not translate well as the slip I had in mind was way too long. I thought of hacking off the spare length but the rational minded one in the house suggested I simply take it off!

Sundried Upstream

Anything would feel relaxed in comparison to the last term at school but I am sure that I shan't have to eat my words later on when I say that this is as chilled as drama school has been for like forever. We are 4 full days into rehearsal and the play is already looking fab. We are now back in our uniform of blacks which could be a huge hindrance to someone running a style blog...I managed to take these pedestrain shots before the dress code changed. I like the fact I look like a 'proper' student albeit one with a Francesco Biasia school bag!

(Big massive allo to my new followers. Thank you, thank you, thank you! I am now also on Facebook so do 'like' the page...)

Uniqlo jeans, Babooshka turban, Carla Jones jumper, Firetrap boots & Francesco Biasia bag.

Soiled Carts & Rotten Apples

I am a sucky blogger and it is a wonder how I have managed to retain my handful of followers with my output lately or should that be lack of. I am learning that the second year of Drama school is truly a monster that takes over your life. I have to keep reminding myself whenever I feel the pressure mounting that it will never ever be this hectic again at any other point of the course so hold it together I must. I have been thinking of what to do with my blog in terms of content & updates in these busy times...Although I have not been going out much I have been purchasing, as ever, like a demon but I will be damned if I will turn this blog into a glorified 'look what I can afford to buy' temple to make up for lack of outfit posts. Outfit posts is what MCB is all about & I so enjoy doing them so please bear with me, it will get better I promise and I will make more of a concerted effort in the new year.
p.s I think I might be bring a whole ton of material back from India that I will be listing for sale right here - If this would this be of interest to you or anyone you know do pass on the info!

To combat the snow, I wore on my head a grey Babooshka turban, vintage Gunne Sax dress, Muu-Baa leather jacket, bag (borrowed from my Daughter) is from Zara kids & boots are Firetrap via Brandalley. Earings & necklaces from various Etsy sellers.
