High Street Challenge - Day 3

The week has flown by. I have bought 24 pairs of shoes this week. I shit you not. Net-A-Porter & Kurt Geiger bore the main brunt of it all. I wish I could say they were all for shooting purposes but no, I am just a huge unapologetic shoe-whore. Want to see pics just holler!

High Street Challenge - Day 1

OMG. The girl posts! Where I have been is prepping the production arm of MCB primed for full assault on publications by styling mega concept shoots the summer through. BUT that does not mean the blog is to be neglected because of this. In fact, all the 'seriousness' of the business side of MCB makes it easier to find the fun in blogging just for fun!


I undertook a 5 day challenge this week to see how I can best rock the current offerings on the high street and this is look no' 1. Yes, my hair is currently, according to Foxy Locks, 'Cherly Cole' red....She was way popular back when the weave was ordered but I digress.


I know I must seem partial to online shopping but seriously, I am not averse to shopping on the British high street and I really do believe there are plenty of affordable clothes to be excited about 'out there'. I am purposely featuring items from certain stores that some might imagine was not in fitting with MCB styling model but it is not all about high end couture here. You all know I like me some expensive shoes but I mix that up with vintage, indie designs, charity shops, established labels and high street. If the skirt looks familiar that is because you remember this.....

The blog is now a year old and I love all that it brings forth and all the new bloggers I have connected with. As far as global fashion domination goes the blog sits quite high on the pyramid of importance so rest assure that my 'front-line' presence shall continue to exist in conjunction with all my other attention seeking projects!

Portraiture: Furore

My darling in-house Photographer / Hubby wanted to play about with some new lights, which I would say he did successfully, non? My styling brief was simple: fur & some sparkle / glitter. I knew straightaway a head-wrap would be the perfect accompaniment but the challenge was to find 'blow-me away' material in house with virtually no notice! 

June Ambrose might sell her Turbans for $125-150 a pop and good on her. However the colourful cloth bazaar adorning my head, a remixed turban a la MCB, is in fact a vintage dress (a.k.a styling manna from the gods) that cost me less than 10 quid. I spotted it casually draped on the banister as I went off to see to my face and it spoke to me!

Geometric Armour

When life seems intent to bash you on the head, put something fun on. I chose a vintage jumpsuit bought from To Be Worn Again in Brighton which I posted about here. I love the geometric, art deco-esque patterns. And the Topshop sandals make yet another reappearance. I put my hands up; they are my crush of the month!

Coral Reef

Personally, I have nothing witty or clever to share right about now. Bar these images that my hubby lovingly worked on for me to share with you. My body and mind are tired but rather than see these signs as negative, I listen to them as a call to strengthen from the inside out; a sign that I need to take time out for myself so that I can continue happily and fulfilled on this wonderful blessed journey I get to call my life.

Mastin Kipp is a daily fixture on my Twitter stream and is always good for reminding you about the bigger picture. Life is not a battle to be conquered and whilst that is an original thought I have long held I loved what he says here...

Look Book 1 - Sun Stroke

.....Endless bank holiday weekend, surprise royal weddings, Jacques Cider over ice, tanning without trying, claiming your patch all over London parks. Blackheath, Brockwell, Hampstead - no green space to be found, all occupied with bodies begging to be kissed by the sun. All on a mission to make the heat last; pass through them and remind them that this is it, summer has reared its head. Sozzled with sun. Beaming, knowing the heat and drinks combo only brings about one thing but no head space for that right about now. You've got your vintage sun bather on. Suddenly dreaming of Tree-tops in Kenya, St.Lucian Pitons and white Mauritian beaches. Hot is not what you are seeking but a fever. Sliding plump green olives in mouth and discreetly spit stone out. Philadelphia and Strawberry Jam sandwich bagels makes you think of impending Wimbledon. The sun shine continues to beam down and the cheeky monkey, which we so longed to come out to play, soon has you seeking refuge in tree shade. Admit it, you are festival ready!

Cheap Meds

 
As in cheap Mediterranean from where I am back! And yes, we all had a great time. Woody was married to the swimming pool and kids club and hubby & I to each other!

Found this spotted playsuit for $10 and not only did I snap it up immediately, I made like a child and wore it out to dinner the same night! Promise to show more pics from the holiday that does not involve me pulling awkward faces at the camera but for now enjoy me looking like sozzled jail bait / junkie crack-whore! Or not as the case may be.

I should mention that it is way past bed time but we are working on new business cards and banner for the site and when I say we, I mean hubby. Seriously, give the man a medal!

Not sure if I should use up all the holiday style pics first before resorting back to the home-baked editorials we do so well....

THANK YOU to all my readers, old and new, for continuing to read, comment and support MCB as it grows from a new born baby to a toddler finding its feet. Paris was amazing. You would not believe that it is only my second visit with the ease I showed in navigating the subway but I guess I have the London tube system to thank for my ability to read any underground map put in front of me! Those following my domestic life on Twitter will already know about the MAJOR Parisian purchase I made at Bally yesterday which I shall be showcasing once the shock passes...

I have been excited yet apprehensive about shooting content since the move because even though I have lots of ideas I want to throw at you all space is a major issue. I am currently trying to persuade darling hubby to venture outside with me but as of yet he is not budging on this. In the meantime, I shall be introducing a new viewpoint - images of treasured items not necessarily to be found on my persons but don't worry I will still be found here posing as if I were 5' 10....

Maxi Preach

As I am off to Paris with my darling Mother-in-Law in the morning for a day of R&R in the form of shopping and champagne sipping, you would think I would be able to answer the simple question of what time I need to leave the house to get to St Pancras on time...

The Return of the Caped Crusader

Wow, what is this you wonder!? Surely, it cannot be a blog update! Forgive me. Truly. A whole week has gone by and my stressed brain has surely shrunk in size during that period. We now have internet access which makes all things better and I can get back to lavishing love and attention on the blog. And of course catching up with all YOUR outpourings that I have missed during the past week.

Hubby called me Little Black Riding Hood in this get-up! I am wearing a Mina dress paired with a vintage coat I 'taxed' off my darling mother, Firetrap booties and Schwing Schwing corset belt. In my mind the dress was to be paired with a lace slip underneath (as shown below) but it did not translate well as the slip I had in mind was way too long. I thought of hacking off the spare length but the rational minded one in the house suggested I simply take it off!

Broken Heels

Can you believe it is February already!? I am looking forward to the month for a number of reasons, one majorly exciting one that I refuse to talk about until it has happend....

It is the last week of rehearsal for Yerma. We open next week! I am still loving the rehearsal process and hope the performances itself builds positively on this. As a cast we have really gelled well and I am looking forward to after-show celebrations. One of which will be a perfume party I am planning for the female cast members. I am not exactly what this will entail as of yet (apart from perfume & champagne) but I am currently thinking of it as a mix between an Ann Summers Party & a Swish (neither of which I have ever attended)!

This is also an opportune moment to announce my imminent first ever GIVEAWAY. I am so lucky to have created a lively forum here and I see this as my way of saying thank you to all that participate. More details to follow including the lovely prizes on offer for my readers worldwide.

Blue Steel / Cleaning Piece III

Allo' to all my lovely readers! I have just finished the CLEANING PIECE III challenge. See image below. I stumbled upon it via Fashion Cappuccino. A quick google led me to discovering it is a concept devised by Yoko Ono under the 100 Acorns umbrella. Anyhoo, I went with option (a) and although I managed to get through it without too many oops moments, it was not the breeze I imagined it wold be.

This is not because I am a horrible, snarky bad-minded monster but because I seem to have a clumsy way of saying things that leaves sensitive types shrinking. The challenge has highlighted just how easily it is to be misunderstood. Even when the intent is good. However, as the things I say fall firmly within my control, I figure it is the least I can do to try and not offend by simply thinking more before I speak.

I want to know what you think of the challenge. How do you think you would fare? Would you take it up and how do you avoid negative thoughts overwhelming your good intentions?
